Description: Dental patients experiencing anxiety and fear require appropriate intervention to overcome these barriers to care. A non-pharmacological approach is emphasized for patient management, and it is crucial for students to develop the skills necessary to handle such cases. The module titled "Interacting with Others" is designed to provide students with the knowledge and essential skills in managing patients with dental anxiety. This module consists of didactic and workshop components where faculty members facilitate the learning process. The primary goal of this course is to prepare faculty members to guide students in practicing the step 1 of “Iatrosedation Interview," which involves identifying patients with anxiety and/or pain; Iatrosedation Interview, to be able to apply non-pharmacological methods. The emphasis is on the use of effective strategies for patient comfort and successful dental care delivery. Objective: - Explain what "laterosedation" is and the steps involved in conducting "laterosedation" in the clinic - Facilitate student’s conducting an Iatrosedation Interview in role-play exercises using appropriate communication skills/techniques considering a person’s individual characteristics for example patients with TIC/ACE, older adults, Health literacy, Cultural diversity, personality traits, etc Synposis: Dental patients experiencing anxiety and fear require appropriate intervention to overcome these barriers to care.
