In this course, Dr. Glenn Clark and Dr. Anette Vistoso Monreal will discuss the Importance and Challenges of Accurate Diagnosis in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine,
Objective:
Three learning objectives of this course:
1. Recognize the Clinical Features of Common Orofacial Pain and Oral Mucosal Diseases
2. Develop a Comprehensive Diagnostic Approach in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine
3. Implement Effective Management Strategies for Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine
Synposis:
In this course, Dr. Glenn Clark and Dr. Anette Vistoso Monreal will discuss the Importance and Challenges of Accurate Diagnosis in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine, starting with Dr. Glenn Clark presenting a compelling case for the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosing and treating orofacial pain (OFP). In the lecture, he will highlight the critical need for accurate data collection to achieve precise diagnoses. Dr. Clark will discuss studies demonstrating how high rates of missing critical data and inaccuracies in medical documentation cause diagnostic problems. He will emphasize how these issues can lead to misdiagnoses and compromised patient care. To address these challenges, he will introduce a three-part solution. Namely (1) building a highly structured medical note system, (2) implementing point-of-care decision support algorithm, and (3) utilizing computational clinical phenotypes help the clinician better navigate the diagnostic process and achieve accuracy in orofacial pain patient care.
Next, Dr. Anette Vistoso Monreal will delve into the critical differentiation between benign and malignant oral lesions, emphasizing the importance of early and accurate diagnosis in dental practice. The session will provide an in-depth analysis of white and red oral lesions, covering their prevalence, causes, and clinical presentations. It will also explore the diagnostic process, including patient history, clinical features, and the use of diagnostic tests to distinguish between benign and malignant conditions. The lecture will show various conditions, such as leukoplakia, erythroplakia, and different types of keratotic and vascular lesions, providing practical insights for dental professionals to enhance their diagnostic capabilities.
